Meet the New Site Theme

Here it is, just like I promised last post: a new theme for the Jensen Family Studio blog. This one is designed to look and feel like the studio room itself. I really enjoyed making the new theme, and I came to love and appreciate the Helvetica font a lot more! (It appears on the titles.)

Please take note of the new theme’s exciting new features! On the sidebar to the right, you’ll notice a “subscribe” area. You can subscribe to new posts through RSS or (new!) Email format. The recordings should be easier to find now: they get their own heading on the sidebar.

I also made an extended footer (see the bottom of every page) like several sites have started. You can see a quick list of the newest posts and comments, as well as links to posts month-by-month. Yes, the recent comments feature isn’t quite finished yet. But I don’t care. I wanted to get this thing up and running! The recent comment list will be working soon.

I hope you enjoy the new design! Tell me what you think.

Meet the New Studio

The new studio!A glamor shot, I suppose?
My main electronic setup. The mixer and the drum pad don't actually make noise, they just send messages to the computer, which makes the sounds after that.Stompboxes and cables. Most of this stuff is actually Joe's.
My cheesy bass guitar.Headphones and keyboards. And a gamepad and a kazoo.
A Rodgers prototype organ. My dad plays the organ. Some microphones and the family treadmill. It's good for marching practice...

My family has been working on a dedicated music room for months, and it’s finished now!

It’s great for practicing instruments, recording, and doing homework. Dad is really happy to have his office back, too. (All of the music gear used to be in his home office. It took up about half the room, spilling cables across the other half!) I should make it clear that this isn’t “Andrew’s studio” or “Nick’s studio,” it’s the family music room. We all get to share it. It just happens to be really great for recording music in.

We framed and insulated the room ourselves, then hired help to finish the room. We added extra precautions to make the room partially sound-proof, cutting down the noise the room lets through to the rest of the house. The painting and electrical work was finished just last month.

In the final picture, you can see the one major “compromise” in the room. Mom and Dad wanted the family treadmill moved out of their bedroom, and rightly so. It now lives in the studio. Nick and I joke that it’s good for marching practice.

I’m working on a new blog theme that matches the studio! I plan to finish it and put it on the site by next week.
