The Gorge

Last Saturday we were invited to join the Localization team for their summer party. They went to a place called “longqingxia” which means something like “Dragon” “Happy” “Gorge”. Actually I think that there’s a more precise meaning for that second word, but my Chinese isn’t good enough to be certain. Anyway, the gorge is long and skinny, and it twists around so that it must look like a dragon from above. There’s a dam that has turned the gorge into a reservoir for the Beijing area. Getting to the top of the dam requires riding five elevators that are installed inside a large, yellow dragon attached to the side of the mountain.

We rode on boats in the reservoir, rode a cable car to the top of the gorge, and ate a delicious dinner of food from Hunan province.

During all that time we were able to talk with some very interesting, fun people. They enjoyed the chance to exercise their English skills, and we enjoyed getting to know them.
